This is a big problem and a problem that will always be around.
The price of Petroleum is a joke, i don't even drive and I'm so annoyed by what i see on a daily basis.
One major contributing factor is that the price of Petroleum in most countries is not Government subsidized, this means that the oil companies can fix Petrol prices as much as they see fit.
Service Stations play some sort of a role in this, instead of paying a set price per tank refill, they actually don't pay for the petroleum until the consumer buys it.
This means that since the Service Station doesn't pay a set price per tank the price at the bowser can fluctuate as much as the oil companies like.
This is why we see a price jump on a daily basis.
The Service Stations deny raising prices towards the end of the week but this continues to happen, they know there will be more cars on the road around Fri into the weekend so you see almost a 20c a litre raise.
In short there is no reason Petroleum is so highly priced as it is, The Government also gets a tax levy on every litre which is why they don't jump in a subsidize at all.
